Few take steps to Control Weight

Only 23 Percent of Americans Take Necessary Steps to Control Weight

Though half of Americans say they're trying to control their weight, only 23% are taking 2 important steps to getting there: watching what they eat AND getting exercise.
Experts recommend:
reducing calorie intake
60 mins of vigorous exercise on most days of the week.

However, data on 4,300 adults from the 2001-2002 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey found that:
51% say they tried to either lose or maintain their weight in the previous 12 months.
74% of those who are trying to lose say they ate less food or switched to lower-calorie foods.
Exercise for those trying to maintain weight was 180 mins.
but for those trying to lose weight was 135 mins a week of physical activity.

First calorie intake must be reduced to 1000-1500 cals / day to reduce weight,
an easy way of calorie control are meal replacements Formula 1 nutrition shake/ smoothie instead of a meal. Such meal replacement shakes can control calorie intake plus easy fast food.
Second if you are not exercising, you are giving up one of the most essential steps to optimal health. Just aim to do more than you normally do, week 1 do more than previous week, week 2 do more than week 1 etc, gradually increasing your exercise at whatever level you can.

A word of warning to anyone thinking of taking drastic action to lose weight.....

Almost Half of Weight-Loss Surgery Patients Suffer Serious Complications
It's already known that gastric bypass and other bariatric surgeries for weight loss carry deadly risks, but what was perhaps not known was just how common these risks were.
A new US government report has found that for bariatric surgeries:
22% of patients in hospital had complications
but 44% of discharged patients had complications during the 1st 6 months
.
That means that 4 in 10 people who have the surgery develop complications.
Among the most common complications were:
Dumping syndrome, which involves vomiting, reflux and diarrhea
Complications resulting from the surgical joining of the intestine and stomach
Abdominal hernias
Infections and pneumonia
A patient with complications not only has to deal with the health issues, but also the costs. Costs averaged $36,542 for obesity surgery patients who had complications in the six months after surgery, and for those who had to be readmitted to the hospital as a result, costs averaged over $65,000.
Needless to say, I am not an advocate of this procedure, especially considering that far more effective, less expensive healthy
weight loss programmes options that exist .

So there is no 'instant, painfree way' to lose weight such as weight loss programs such as Herbalife supplements....

And next...protein power for good nutrition.

Protein Nutrition Required for healthy Diet....add more protein into your diet to reduce your fat
We need protein in our diet to stay strong and healthy. If we don't eat enough our bodies will steal it from our muscles and organs. In fact, protein is essential for the development of our muscles, which lead to an increase in the burning of calories. Our muscles could be described as fat furnaces as they keep our metabolism running high.
Too many fast releasing carbohydrates lead to weight gain
Traditionally we were taught that carbohydrates should provide our body with its primary supply of energy. However, many people have confused fast releasing carbohydrates (pasta, cakes) and slow releasing carbohydrates (whole grains, vegetables) eating too many of the former-the tempting, convenient, tasty variety! Most of us lead sedentary lives, so any excess energy from carbohydrate-rich food) is stored as fat

How much protein do I need?
Women need 100g of protein per day : Men need 150g protein in diet per day

How can I easily make sure I get the right protein?
If you tried to get all the protein you need from foods such as meats, you would consume too many calories, because these protein rich foods come with extra fat calories.
Protein-enriched meal replacement shakes, Protein powder protein Supplement and High Protein Low Carbohydrate snack products, contain protein sources which are easily absorbed and assimilated, and which allow you to reach your body's protein requirements without those unwanted calories. Protein powder supplement is particularly versatile - and can be added to sauces, soups, stews etc for added protein.
Easy and convenient
good nutrition programme to follow, so will fit into a busy lifestyle. For example, easy to take a shake for breakfast (in milk or juice or yoghurt) to help balance blood sugar levels, rather than skip breakfast altogether.
Its
fast food good nutrition for smart people!

Until the next time.....

How to lose weight for summer? and for ever?

How to lose weight in time for summer? ...........
And to find a long term solution for weight control?

Fasting, living on lettuce leaves, or excluding entire food groups won't cut it in the long run, because it's just too hard. And the slowed metabolism, bingeing, and self-recrimination that follow can make a weight problem even worse. Losing weight and shaping up for good depends on making some serious (but not unpleasant!) lifestyle changes:
Eat a good nutrition diet
- First and foremost, the daily food plan should provide all the nutrients the body needs to thrive, including plenty of protein, at least five servings of fruits and vegetables, 25-30 grams of fiber and 8 glasses of water.
Spread out daily food intake - Eating 3 meals and 2-3 snacks each day is key, as skipping meals or waiting too long before eating can slow the metabolism, lower blood sugar levels, and increase the risk of bingeing.
Make sure each meal or snack contains protein - Eating protein with every meal or snack helps slow the rise and fall of blood sugar and reduce hunger cravings. Soy protein is an excellent choice because it's a high-quality protein that's low in fat and calories. It also has a low
glycemic index, which means it won't trigger a sharp increase and decrease of blood sugar. Recent studies have also shown that soy protein helps reduce hunger and extend the period of feeling “full.” And, the FDA states that 25 grams of soy protein per day, with a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.
Eat more soy and soy protein isoflavones
- To receive the full benefits of soy isoflavones, a health expert panel advocates 160 mg a day, which is approximately the amount contained in 6 glasses of soy milk or 6 servings of tofu. But that's a lot to swallow, and may add an extra 24 grams of fat to the diet! Taking isoflavone pills may sound like a good idea, but they don't work as well as natural isoflavones combined with soy protein and may interfere with mineral absorption.
Trim the fat - Since fat is the most concentrated source of calories, eating too many fatty foods is a fast-track to weight gain. Easy ways to cut back on fat include using non-fat dairy products, fat-free salad dressing and margarine and lean meats whenever possible. Poultry, meats and fish should be skinned and trimmed of all visible fat before cooking. And of course fried foods, cream sauces, butter, gravy, full-fat cheese or dairy products and rich desserts should be cut back or eaten only occasionally.
Practice enjoyable eating - Those who feel deprived won't stay with an eating plan for long, and completely cutting out favourite foods can backfire. A more flexible approach is needed. Most foods can be eaten sparingly and less often, or enjoyed in healthier versions. The overall goal is to eat foods that play a dual role: good for the taste buds and good for the body.
Watch portion size - Just adding an extra 1/2 cup of cereal, tablespoon of butter, extra ounce of meat and slice of bread to the daily diet can add up to about 320 extra calories. If done consistently, this could produce another pound of fat every 11 days! Using measuring cups and spoons and a small scale can help keep portions under control.
Exercise - No shape-up plan is complete without a good exercise component. Exercise helps boost the metabolism, tone the body and speed weight loss. It's also an effective anxiety buster, relieving muscle tension, burning up stress hormones and stimulating the release of endorphins. A brisk walk for 45 minutes a day can add up to another pound lost every 17 days.
Drink plenty of water - The body needs at least eight 8-ounce glasses a day to wash away toxins, replenish lost fluids, prevent constipation, and reduce water retention or bloating. For best results, water should be sipped a little at a time throughout the day.
Come prepared - One of the biggest reasons for diet crash-and-burn is the failure to plan for the unexpected. Keeping healthy snacks on hand, like a
Soy protein bar or soy nuts, can keep blood sugar even and energy high, helping to stave off hunger, snacking on high calorie foods and late-night binges. Drinking a meal replacements shake before a potentially diet-busting dinner, party or holiday celebration may save hundreds of calories. A little advance planning may make all the difference between a failed diet and the successful loss of many unwanted pounds - make a meal replacement shake and take it to work - no more high calorie sandwiches..

Untill the next time...Anne

Can good nutrition be easy?

My moto is.................................
'be healthy, feel good, look your best'
which is why I've a real interest in Good Nutrition and

thats why everyone needs good nutrition whatever their age, man, woman or child.

After all 'what you put in, is what you get out'.
So if you put rubbish into your body, you'll get rubbish out whether its poor health, poor shape, poor skin, poor self esteem, poor energy.........

So how can you easily make sure you get the protein, carbs, fats, vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are essential to good health and vitality.
In an ideal world, we would get all the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients from the food we eat. But in today’s world, we have hectic lifestyle and poor eating habits, so it is often impractical to have the ideal foods all the time.
Weight problems and nutritional deficiencies are widespread in the UK and many countries, mainly due to bad eating habits such as overeating, skipping meals, "yo-yo" dieting and fast foods.
Plus stress, medications, smoking, alcohol and poor eating habits all lead to decreased nutrient absorption from the food we eat.
Many people who try to lose weight quickly abuse their bodies with radical and unsafe slimming methods. Minimal or reduced-calorie diets rarely provide the full nutrition that our body’s require and can lead to long-term health disorders.
Harsh dieting also robs us of all enjoyment in eating. After long periods of dieting and self-denial, many people fail to maintain their desired weight and put back every kilo they lost and more!
If your diet provides you with less than optimum nutrition, you will lightly need to supplement your diet with vitamins, minerals and other nutritional factors.
Our bodies are composed of trillions of tiny building blocks-living cells which grow, die and are replaced many times over during our lifetimes. As all nutrition is absorbed at this level, our bodies need good nutrition for them to perform their vital functions of metabolism: growth, repair, detoxification and reproduction.
A weight control program that gives the good nutrition needed whilst cutting calorie intake is the very effective
Herbalife’s Weight loss Programme. This allows us to reduce our calorie intake while maintaining vitamin, mineral and nutrient factors essential to good health. And the nutrition is in an easily digestible form, so our body can absorb them, even when there has been a history of poor eating, excessive dieting or illness.
The key difference with
Herbalife healthy weight loss program products is the inclusion of a group of herbs and micronutrients which support optimum nutrition, for those who need such support, to further assist overall good health and vitality.

Next post in a few days. Bye
